About

Helen Wicks is a San Francisco based interdisciplinary artist, choreographer, performer, aerialist, archivist, filmmaker, and educator. Helen’s training began as a competitive gymnast where she was a member of the US TOPs National Team 2001-2004. As Artistic Director of Helen Wicks Works, she creates circus-informed performance for multi-generational audiences that has been commissioned by Bay Area Discovery Museum,  Z Space, Salesforce Tower and presented at Herbst Theater, SF Aerial Arts Festival, Fort Mason’s Gateway Pavilion, Cowell Theater, Triskelion Arts, SAFEhouse Arts, Circus Center, The Roxie Theater, and ODC, Arts on Site, SPACE 124, and more.  She has performed with Zaccho Dance Theatre, Flyaway Productions, Grounded Aerial, and others. Helen performed works by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, and Merce Cunningham during her time earning a BA in Dance and a BA in Psychology from Bard College where she was awarded the Ana Itelman Prize for choreography. Her current practice is influenced by conversations and practice with Deborah Hay, Quincy Jones, and Jesse Zaritt. After 10 years as Dance & Arts Specialist at The Nueva School where she ran an integrated visual art, dance, and theater program for students Pre-K thru 4th grade, she currently teaches independent circus arts classes in Sonoma County, SF, and San Mateo. Helen is also a Somatic Creative Arts Coach.
