This aerial installation performance at Project Artaud’s Z SPACE was part of national #redalertRESTART movement in which performance venues in thousands of cities “went red” in solidarity asking Congress to pass the RESTART bill ASAP which would bring financial relief to live venues who are suffering 6 months into the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This was a 2 hour installation performance in which H. Wicks performed on the building from 9 - 11 pm.
Z Space’s exterior on Florida St fluctuated with audience members, neighbors, and passers by reaching 40 onlookers for a while. Ochshorn’s score layered Antonin Artaud’s “Theater and the Plague” read by both Artaud and Wicks, excerpts from Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator," Wagner’s influential melodies, and Napa County Fire Dispatch Radio archives from the harrowing week prior to the September 2nd performance in which approximately 861,000 acres burned.
Lighting and Rigging by Benjy Young. Score by Robert M. Ochshorn. Photos by Robbie Sweeny.
